Currently housed in Rome’s Capitoline Museum, The Dying Gaul (230-220 BCE) is a Roman marble copy of a lost Greek bronze. Originally displayed on the Altar of Pergamon, in what is now modern-day Turkey, The Dying Gaul is a powerful example of Greek Hellenism. Part of a larger sculptural series on the Altar of Pergamon that also included The Ludovisi Gaul, the work was created to commemorate the Pergamene victory over the Gauls, an intent reflected in its poignant portrayal of a defeated Celtic warrior moments before his death. Girls on the Run Takes Off at Dayton Consolidated School, Empowering Young Girls Through Movement and Mentorship

PHOTO BY CALLY GUDROE Dayton Consolidated School has joined the national movement to empower young girls with the launch of its first Girls on the Run program this spring. Led by PE and STEM teacher Jill Keimach and librarian/Ed Tech Wyeth Spike, the program kicked off April 1 and will run through June 1, culminating in a celebratory 5K run. The nationwide nonprofit, which combines physical activity with life skill development, is designed to build confidence, foster leadership, and encourage emotional resilience in girls from third to fifth grade.
